Vulnerability to climate extremes

In the illustration can be seen vulnerable groups to extreme climatic events. Extreme climatic events, such as extreme heat waves, extreme drought and flooding are increasing at an unprecedented rate across the globe. The aftermath of such extreme climatic events can be catastrophic to ecosystems with responses like the mass mortality of organisms leading to irreversible changes in ecosystem properties.
Trees and vertebrate predators were the most vulnerable groups but to different extreme climatic events. Microorganisms and vertebrates were the least studied groups. Invertebrates showed a high variability in their response to any extreme climatic event.
